Auto Insurance

Auto Insurance is a contract between you/policyholder and the insurance company to protect you, your passenger, and your vehicle when you are involved in a car accident.

Basic understanding of Auto Insurance Coverage

  • Liability Coverage

  • Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage

  • Collison Coverage

  • Comprehensive Coverage

  • Medical Payment Coverage

  • Car Rental Coverage

  • Towing & Roadside assistant Coverage

  • Gap Insurance Coverage

Liability Coverage

Liability coverage is mandatory in most states.

You/drivers are required to purchase at least the minimum amount of liability coverage set by state law.

For example: Minimum liability coverage in state of Georgia is:

25/50/25 which means:

$25,000 towards driver’s injury, $50,000 towards all passengers of the other vehicle, and $25,000 towards property damages.

There are several liability limits in state of Georgia:

25/50/25    50/100/50   100/300/100   250/500/100

Liability Coverage has two components:

  • Bodily injury liability coverage applies to injuries that you, the designated driver or policyholder, cause to someone else. You and family members listed on the policy are also covered when driving someone else’s car with their permission.

  • Property Coverage Liability pays for damage you (or someone driving the car with your permission) may cause to someone else's property.

Uninsured and underinsured Motorist Coverage

Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage will pay you if you hit by an uninsured driver or a driver who does not have sufficient insurance to pay for your total loss. This coverage also offers protection in the event a covered driver is the victim of a hit-and-run.

Collision Coverage

Collision coverage pays for damages if you are involved in an accident with another vehicle, or another object, such as a tree or fence. Even you are at fault, collision coverage will pay you for repair of your car, minus the deductible.

Collision coverage is usually sold by a certain deductible.

Comprehensive Coverage

Comprehensive coverage pays for damages to your car from things like theft, fire, hail or vandalism. This coverage help pay to repair or replace your vehicle (up to the vehicle's actual cash value) minus deductible.

Comprehensive coverage is an optional coverage; however, your lender may require it if you are leasing or financed your car.

Medical Payment Coverage

If you, your passengers or family members who are driving the insured vehicle are injured in an accident, medical payments coverage may help pay for costs associated with the injuries. Covered costs may include hospital visits, surgery, X-rays and more.

Car Rental Coverage

Rental car coverage helps you pay for transportation expenses, such as a rental car or public transportation, while your own vehicle is being repaired after a covered insurance claim. It does not apply if your vehicle needs routine maintenance work. It is an optional coverage.

Towing & Roadside assistant Coverage

This is an optional coverage that usually protects you against some of the costs resulting from common roadside breakdowns like flat tire, lockout, or dead batteries, or an accident.

Gap Coverage

Gap insurance coverage is an optional coverage that helps pay off your auto loan if your car is totaled or stolen and you owe more than the value of car. Drop gap insurance coverage once your vehicle is two to three years old. Keep an eye on your specific circumstances such as amount owed on your auto loan, and the value of the vehicle to make sure that this is the best option for you.
